If you’re a fan of sweets, then you’re in for a real treat with stroopwafels! These delicious Dutch snacks, also known as syrup waffles or caramel waffles, are made of two crispy wafers that sandwich a gooey, luscious caramel filling.
Legend has it that stroopwafels were first made in Gouda, a beautiful city in the Netherlands. But, luckily for us, these mouth-watering delights have spread all around the world, and you don’t have to travel far to indulge in one.
So, what makes stroopwafels so special? Well, it’s the heavenly batter that they are made of, consisting of flour, butter, brown sugar, yeast, milk, and eggs. The filling, made of syrup, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon, is the secret sauce that brings everything together. Once you’ve had a taste, you won’t be able to resist these addictive treats.
But where can you find the stroopwafels? If you’re in the area, TOPS at SPAR Bedfordview sells a range of imported stroopwafels that are made with only the finest ingredients. You will also find the sweet treat at many cheese factories, food shops, tourist traps, and quite a few shops selling imported treats that they source internationally.
If you’re feeling adventurous and want to try making your own, here’s a basic recipe to get you started.
